# 200: 5 Career Advancing Lessons I Learned From Running This Podcast
In today's episode, I'm talking about the 5 career advancing lessons that I've learned from running this podcast and producing 200 episodes.
Here are 5 lessons learned that are relevant to you as it relates to your career development:
- Momentum comes from taking consistent action
- What you communicate is not always the same as what is received by your audience
- You never know who is watching
- Your perspective matters
- There are so many other people who are in your shoes
Momentum comes from taking consistent action - When I first started the podcast, I would get maybe 10 or 20 downloads a week, and then maybe 50 or 100 downloads a week... and now we are going into having thousands of downloads in a week, and I didn't think that was possible when we were only getting a few downloads. The momentum came with just keeping going and just showing up time and time again. When it comes to your career, I want you to remember that, sometimes you can be taking action and may not be seeing the results, recognition, growth or development. But keep showing up.
What you communicate is not always the same as what is received - This is the 3rd iteration of the podcast. When we first started, I was too focused on what I wanted to call the show rather than a name that people would be able to find. It wasn't until we rebranded to the podcast to the "Career Change Maker Podcast", based on feedback that I was getting from clients, that people started to find the show easily. When you are positioning yourself for opportunities make sure you communicate in a way that helps the hiring manager see you as an ideal candidate, rather than focus on what you want to focus on.
You never know who is watching - I'm sitting here behind a microphone and I can see how many people are listening but I don't know WHO is listening. What is beautiful for me and what I absolutely love is when I receive messages from people on LinkedIn
You might not recognise that the work you're doing IS being recognised, so continue to show up because you never know who's listening, who's watching and where opportunities might come in the future.
Your perspective matters - Even if there are lots of people applying for the job that you want to go for, recognise that there's only one YOU and your perspective and your approach to things absolutely matters. Recognise you have a unique perspective, and a unique blend of experience, to bring to the table. Own that.
There are so many other people who are in your shoes - We have people from different parts of the world, from different industries, from different backgrounds and yet similar challenges come up time and time again for them. You are not the only one.
