# 197: Moving Past Negative Work Experiences
In today's episode, I will be talking about moving past negative work experiences. This is something that has come up a few times in coaching sessions lately, so I have a feeling it will resonate with quite a few of you.
I was working with one particular client who was ready to step up to a more senior position. We were exploring what it is that she wanted to do, where she wanted to go and how she would need to position herself.
Once we knew the answers to these, I noticed there was a bit of resistance from her in taking the steps to make it happen.
My client's resistance was coming from her negative experiences with her previous employer. We had to really peel back all the layers and identify the positive lessons learned through the negative experience.
Once she identified the lessons, we were then able to make changes that aligned better to what she wanted, so she wouldn't have to come across the same negative experience again in a different environment.
What you will learn:
- Addressing negative experiences- If you don't address the way a negative experience has impacted you, you are likely to bring that into a new role where you have the opportunity to do things differently.
- Recognising the lessons- Instead of taking the negative experience with you, look at it as a lesson. You now have a new opportunity to do things differently in a new environment.
